NAGEL APPOINTED TO AAPC SLOT ON FCC/NTIA ADVISORY COMMITTEE
AAPC is extremely pleased to announce that John F. Nagel, Director, IT & Network Applications for American Messaging Services, has been appointed as AAPC's representative on the Joint Advisory Committee on Communications Capabilities of Emergency Medical and Public Health Care Facilities (CCEM) established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Nagel's appointment was made jointly by FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin and U.S. Commerce Department Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information John M.R. Kneuer and announced in Washington, DC today. The CCEM Joint Advisory Committee is part of the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007, Public Law No. 110-53 (2007). The first meeting of CCEM has been set for Monday, October 29, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at FCC headquarters in Washington, DC.
The Joint Advisory Committee has been tasked with assessing (1) specific communications capabilities and needs of emergency medical and public health care facilities, including the improvement of basic voice, data and broadband capabilities; (2) options to accommodate growth of basic and emerging communications services used by emergency medical and public health care facilities; and (3) options to improve integration of communications systems used by emergency medical and public health care facilities with existing or future emergency communications networks. The Committee's findings will be presented to the United States Congress and are due on or before February 4, 2008.
I am certain all of AAPC's members join with me in congratulating John on this high honor and wishing him success with his endeavors as part of the Committee.
